IT careers involve the design, development, support and management of hardware, software, multimedia and systems integration services. The IT industry is a dynamic and entrepreneurial working environment that has a revolutionary impact on the economy and society. In addition to careers in the IT industry, IT careers are available in every sector of the economy from Financial Services to Medical Services, from Business to Engineering and Environmental Services.

The State of Illinois has not formally released the Knowledge and Skill Statements in the Information Technology Cluster and its associated pathways. If your local program area wishes to pursue the development and implementation of a Program of Study in this area, please refer to the knowledge and skills that have been developed nationally by visiting the Career Clusters website at www.careerclusters.org and select the "16 Career Clusters" tab to review knowledge and skills developed in this area at this time. As soon as the state has formally reviewed the knowledge and skills within this cluster and associated pathways, documentation will be posted for local areas to begin using for their program development.
